Despite ABP securing 11 out of 14 posts, NSUE retained control of the union by winning the two most powerful positions—Vice President and General Secretary. Afzal Ahmed was elected Vice President, while Ruchita Purkayastha General Secretary Karimganj College title was secured by a margin of just two votes, making the victory both historic and dramatic.

This win was particularly significant because, in the last 12 years, no minority candidate had secured such a major post. Ruchita Purkayastha’s success symbolized the changing mindset within the campus and highlighted the growing acceptance of women and minority leadership in student politics.
